The Lovevery Play Gym is an award-winning activity gym designed by child development experts. Recommended starting from birth and up to a year of play, the play gym is both eco-friendly and perfect for parents who want to introduce Montessori teachings early to their little ones. As a bonus, batteries are not required and it’s machine-washable, making set-up simple for new parents.
If you’re hoping for more adventures during tummy time, there are also add-ons to purchase in order to help your baby develop motor skills. With just a 2-minute setup and takedown (no tools required!), the Lovevery Play Gym is simple to start using as soon as you bring baby home. The play mat comes with an organic high contrast cotton ball, a wooden batting ring, an organic cotton teether, a BPA-free teething ring, a black-and-white card set, a mirror card set, a common objects card set, a faces card set, and the play guide. You can also add on more four more different kinds of black and white cards as well as sensory strands.
A Focus on Baby’s Development
I began using the Play Gym by Lovevery almost as soon as I brought my baby home. (Our pediatrician recommended that we start tummy time as soon as the belly button stump had fallen off.) Although my little one wasn’t loving tummy time at first, the black-and-white play cards were a big hit from the beginning. Because the play gym comes with the four detachable cards, I initially used them outside of the play space to help my baby’s eyesight and development.
After a month, I moved the play gym into the living room so that I could place the baby there to play and interact with in the common space instead of just his bedroom. He loved the high contrast cotton ball especially, but eventually I bought the sensory stands add-on and that has been a big hit.
Although my baby is just over four months old, and therefore not yet ready for the extra areas, I am eager to start exploring the five developmental zones created to learn to focus, make sounds, see how things feel, hide and find, and explore colors. Because my little one is such a big fan of the sensory stands, I think he will especially love the “how things feel” area.
Grow With You
One of the things that most attracted me to the Lovevery Play Gym is that it is meant to grow with your baby. Although a friend had given me another play gym as a hand-me-down, my kiddo definitely loves the Play Gym by Lovevery the best because it’s quite spacious and has featured some of his favorite things since the beginning—all while, I have to say, looking quite stylish in my living room.
And although it does carry a rather high price tag, this play gym does seem worth the investment since there are a lot of different areas of exploration as my baby grows. I really love both the simplicity of that and the design that is clearly meant to help babies develop.
Plus, the fact that there are three different straps to attach the included toys has meant that it is easy to move my baby around when he becomes overstimulated or bored of a particular item. I was even able to add some hanging toys of my own too.
Air-Dry Only
My only big complaint is that while it’s promoted as machine-washable, the playmat is on the bigger side and also has plastic on the “learn to focus” area. They recommend you air dry it, which isn’t always the most practical when you’re a mom of a baby.
Truly Mama-Recommended
I would highly recommend the Play Gym by Lovevery. Despite the high price and the trouble I had with machine washing, I have absolutely loved its versatility and design. It’s the perfect product for baby’s first year and definitely one of the items I use most. In fact, I’d say I have used it every single day for the past few months, so in the long run, the cost-per-use value is very high.
This play gym is perfect for the mom who wants a well-designed product that is both baby tested and created by experts. It’s great to know that it is made from eco-friendly materials and also that it will help your baby learn during their first year.
Of course, it’s especially nice to be able to add something like this to your baby shower registry and have a kind friend or loving relative gift it to you, thereby avoiding the high price and adding in all of the enjoyment. Just don’t forget the sensory stands—those have been well worth the additional $25 for me and my little one. His delight in playing with them almost daily for the past month have brought added joy to my heart. And isn’t that what every mama wants?
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Lovevrey play gym machine-washable?
All of the fabric parts of the play gym are machine-washable. You just have to detach the non-fabric parts, and it I recommended you let the fabric play mat air-dry after washing.
When should I start using the play gym?
You can start using the play gym as soon as your baby is born—supervised, of course.
