The Chicco Fit4 Adapt 4-in-1 convertible car seat is a car seat that can be used for your child from 4 pounds all the way up to 100 pounds. That’s a pretty lofty claim, but it works!
What else works about this car seat? Well, easy-to-use “layering” for different stages, temperature-regulating fabric, and a LATCH system that makes installation easy. Here’s Truly Mama’s full review of the Chicco Fit4 Adapt 4-in-1 car seat.
In this article:
Overview of the Chicco Fit4 Car Seat
As we mentioned earlier, the Chicco Fit4 is a convertible car seat: that means that it’s designed to be used through the newborn stage all the way up through preschool.
It’s “convertible” in 4 ways because it converts from an infant seat to a toddler seat to a preschool seat to a high-back booster for a big kid. Here are the details about this seat:
- Can use from day 1 up through your child being 10 years old
- Safe for children 4 -100 lbs.
- Machine-washable fabric (wash in cold water, hang dry)
- Cup holders are built-in but removable
- 10 position headrest system
- Can accommodate a child up to 57”
- LATCH connectors
- Leveling system with bubble levels
- Steel-reinforced frame
Features to Love About the Chicco Fit4 Adapt
The Chicco Fit4 Adapt 4-in01 car seat is very similar to the Britax One4Life convertible car seat (in fact, we reviewed these two car seats against each other) because they feature uber-comfy fabric and a car seat that can be used in 4 different stages: as a infant seat, as a toddler seat, then as a forward-facing preschool seat, and later, as a high-back booster seat.
Here are the specific features that stood up to me about the Chicco Fit4 4-in-1 car seat:
Temperature-regulating coolness
I will say too, after having a lot of experience with car seats with my four other children, one of the features I love most about this car seat is how it really does have temperature control to help keep it cool + comfy for my toddler.
The secret to staying cool is Chicco’s patented 37.5 technology. The fabric actually has natural volcanic minerals built-in that helps keep the car seat at a relative humidity of 37.5%–it works by removing sweat when it’s in the vapor stage, preventing it from ever forming into liquid sweat. And the opposite is true in cold weather months: the fabric recirculates the infrared energy back to the baby.
Even the metal buckle that I’ve been (literally) burned by in the past has managed to keep cool in the searing summer months, thanks to the cooling technology that’s built right-in to this seat. Somehow, the fabric drawing away the heat manages to keep the buckle from overheating too, which I really appreciate—honestly, it’s a small piece of a parent’s life that you don’t really understand unless you’ve spent a decade buckling kids in car seats like I have.
Comfortable fabric
In addition to fabric that stays cool, I also have to say how comfy this car seat is for my daughter. There’s a lot of cushioning and while sometimes that can make it hard to navigate, it’s also a plus for longer car rides because it’s such a comfortable seat for her.
Easy “layers” for stages
What I loved the most about this car seat is how easy they make moving through the different “stages” you can use the car seat for.
If you ever get confused on which stage you use with your child, all you need to do is scan the QR code that’s literally on the side of the car seat and it will walk you through everything. I would be lying if I said I haven’t had to scan that QR code multiple times already. No matter how times I do this, I can’t seem to remember how to adjust car seats—it’s just one of those confusing things to me as a parent.
In addition to the QR code, the stages are also built-in to the car seat in removable “layers.” So as you move through the different stages, you literally just remove the layer to reveal the next stage of the car seat. Once you move into the forward-facing preschool stage (at 40 pounds), you’ll also need to increase the height of the back of the car seat.
Pros & Cons
Pros
Very comfortable
Latch system
Can be used for extended rear facing
Cons
Heavy
Hard to move
Buckling can be a little difficult
Before You Buy
The main consideration you’ll want to keep in mind before you purchase the Chicco Fit4 4-in-1 is that, like a lot of convertible car seats, this is not a super convenient car seat to move between vehicles.
If you choose a convertible car seat like the Chicco Fit4, it’s a good idea to plan on it being a car seat that you leave primarily in one vehicle just because it can be on the heavier side to move. However, it does have a LATCH system, so if you do need to move it, that part does make it a little easier.
Final Verdict
If you’re looking for a heavy-duty yet comfortable convertible car seat for your child—and you don’t plan on needing to move the car seat a lot—the Chicco Fit4 4-in-1 convertible car seat is a great option.
