Stop me if you’ve heard this one, but newborns don’t always sleep. When I became a mom myself, I definitely wasn’t prepared for this very true (and disappointing) fact.
I waited for my infant to “sleep like a baby,” but he traded in his sleepy time for awake time because of his bout with colic. I stayed up for three months comforting my crying little one. So, when that phase finally ended, I was totally ready to reward myself with some sleep.
Those glorious sleepy nights lasted for about 2 weeks. My son reached his rolling-over milestone, and for safety reasons, we said goodbye to his swaddle. My baby was not a fan and we were back to crying all night long. I desperately wished for some magic that could help us both sleep better.
Then, poof: the Baby Merlin Magic Sleepsuit appeared! Check out our magic sleep suit review to see what enchantments this suit can bring to you and your baby.
The Magic Merlin Sleepsuit: It Truly is Magical
There are times it takes powerful magic to help your baby fall asleep and who knew a suit would be the magic trick you needed?!
But here’s the truth: the Merlin Sleepsuit really did make sleeping magical again for both me and my baby.
The soft cotton inner-layer, soft microfleece outer layer, and polyfil layer in between provided just the right amount of light pressure to keep my baby feeling safe. W
Created by a pediatric physical therapist and mom for her own sleep-deprived baby, it felt like this suit was created just for me and mine. Different from a tight swaddle, the open shape for my baby’s hands and feet gave me even more reason to relax. My son could use his hands and this design kept his body at a comfy temperature.
Ready for the best part? My son loved it. After only one night of getting used to his magical suit, he was sleeping for longer stretches than ever—and that was the best magic.

How We Rated the Merlin Sleepsuit
This sleepsuit is in a brilliant category all its own. If you’re looking for a roomier sleep sack or wearable blanket, then this probably isn’t for you.
When we rated this sleepy suit, we looked at many different aspects:
- Cost
- Comfortable design
- Safety
- How easy it is to clean
- Positive results
When it comes to seeking positive results, The Magic Merlin Sleepsuit lives up to its name. It’s indeed a magical suit that helps a baby sleep and infinitely more cost effective than a night nanny.
The only downside is if diaper leakage sneaks its way into the suit—it is machine-washable, but while being cleaned it might leave you stranded without to a suit to spare and bedtime on its way.

The Merlin Magic Sleepsuit: How it Works
Although a sleepsuit might sound intimating, the Merlin sleep suit is actually way easier to use than any wintertime onesie, especially because the sleepsuit’s double zippers allow you to quickly zip and unzip to dress for bedtime. It fits snug, so underdress as much or as little as you like.
And if you’re still doubting there’s magic in the world, look no further than this suit’s design. It keeps your baby feeling safe while quieting their Moro reflex (when arms and leg flail). And this is the true magic allowing your baby to sleep uninterrupted for stretches of time.
Ready to clean your super suit? No biggie. Pop it the washing machine and then air dry for your next bedtime. It’s fluffy and lightweight so it’s easy to pack for a slumber party at the grandparents too.
If you’re struggling with 4-month sleep regression, transitioning out of a swaddle, or your baby needs support learning to self-soothe, this suit can help bridge all those gaps to a good night’s sleep.
When pediatric physical therapist and mom Maureen created this for her own child, she had all us sleep-deprived moms and babies in mind. Moms call this “amazing” and say “This thing really is like magic.”

Features to Love
There are so many dreamy features to love about this magic sleepsuit. Here are some of the best.
Construction
Your baby can wear this suit starting at 3-months going all the way up to 9-months. There are two sizes: small (12-18 lbs.) and large (18-21 lbs.).
Also, I have to mention that this suit comes in 7 colors with either a microfleece or cotton outer layer. And let’s not forget the double zipper has covers to keep baby’s skin and fingers extra safe.
Customer service
This sleepsuit is pretty straightforward in its use, but a baby’s sleep patterns are not. If you have any specific questions about the sleepsuit, check out the website’s very detailed “Safety” and “FAQ” pages.
You can also write, email, or call their magical customer service department for answers.
Cleaning
Keeping this sleeper clean is a breeze: simply throw it in the wash and go take yourself a break. Washing in cold temps is suggested and then hang to dry to avoid shrinkage.
Cost
There’s one other magical element to this product besides your baby getting a better night’s sleep: the price. The Merlin Sleepsuit falls right in line with others of its kind and in some cases, is the more affordable option.
Before You Buy
This Merlin sleepsuit made my nighttime dreams comes true, but I did notice that the thickness of the suit made my son’s body temperature a little warmer. This was easily solved by dressing him in only a thin shirt and diaper while in the sleepsuit. There were times we skipped the shirt all together and his sensitive skin was kept safe against the soft inner layer of cotton.
We also had occasional issue with “peeful” diaper leakage. So, to solve this problem, I bought a backup suit. Nothing was going to mess with the glory of my newfound sleep—even a messy diaper.
Final Verdict
The design of this suit doesn’t fail. It lives up to the hype and with such a positive result (and at such a good price) The Magic Merlin sleepsuit is a must buy for those sleep-deprived moms trying to support their baby to a better bedtime. Out of all the sleep aids I tried on our journey, this worked the best.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Merlin Sleepsuit worth it?
In a word, yes. After months of not sleeping, this suit helped my little one feel safe enough to fall asleep and stay in dreamland on his own. Plus, it’s affordable, so it’s definitely worth trying.
Do babies roll over in Merlin sleepsuits?
This suit is created for back sleeping, so if babies begin to roll over while wearing it then it’s time to transition them out of the suit. When this happens don’t panic, it usually means your baby is ready to move around more while sleeping.
