Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner reportedly welcomed their first baby this week, a daughter named Willa, who arrived almost exactly a year after her parents were married.
The latest Hollywood addition was first reported by TMZ on Monday, July 27. The outlet reported that Turner had given birth the previous Wednesday, which would make Willa’s birthday July 22.
The couple never formally announced their pregnancy, but they didn’t try to hide it either. Earlier this month, Turner was out and about in L.A. proudly displaying her baby bump in a pair of black maternity leggings with a flannel shirt tied on top of her belly. In May Turner and Jonas were spotted walking while wearing their masks. Although Turner was wearing a t-shirt she was clearly pregnant, and a photo from the walk served as a pregnancy announcement in many publications.
The couple confirmed the birth with a statement to PEOPLE that read, “Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas are delighted to announce the birth of their baby.”
Although we would all love a baby picture to gush over, a source told Entertainment Tonight that Turner and Jonas are keeping Willa out of the limelight for now.
“Joe and Sophie welcomed a baby girl last Wednesday in L.A. and are over the moon. The couple is already obsessed and can’t stop gloating about their new addition,” the source said. “The couple is taking time to enjoy this special moment and have only shared the news and updates with family and friends. With the pandemic Joe and Sophie have been very cautious about who is around them and their little girl.”
We can understand that, especially for first-time parents. Welcoming a new baby during the pandemic is nerve-wracking, even for celebrities.
Turner, 24, is an English actress best known for playing Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones. Jonas, 30, is best known as a member of The Jonas Brothers. After taking a break to focus on their solo careers, the brothers got back together and released the album “Happiness Begins” last year. The group all had their wives participate in music videos for songs on the album, and filming turned into a fun family activity.
Joe Jonas said that he and Turner needed to do some prep for the video for “What A Man Gotta Do.” The dancing in the video was inspired by the classic hand jive scene in Grease.
“We had to do a lot more dancing than I think we’re comfortable with,” Jonas said, according to E. “So, we went to this rehearsal and I remember walking in really hoping there wasn’t professional dancers in the room, because that’s nerve-wracking. But luckily, it was just us and we just had fun with it. And she’s a great actress, so I let her do whatever she wants.”
Turner and Jonas were married last year on June 29. They both posted a picture of them walking down the aisle together after the ceremony with the caption “Mr. and Mrs. Jonas.”
Turner has said in the past that she and Jonas understand each other because they’re both celebrities working in entertainment.
“I found it easier to date someone who understands the industry or is in that world. You realize that you’re not going to see each other all the time. And you don’t feel like a jerk when you’re like, ‘My publicist says I can’t do this…’” she said.
Hopefully, the publicist gives the couple permission to share a photo of little Willa soon!
