Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have shared the devastating news that they have lost their son, whom they named Jack.
The mom had been sharing updates through the week, when she was hospitalized with excessive bleeding, but she initially shared that she and the baby were doing just fine.
With her characteristic humor, Teigen posted an old picture from New Years, where she looks less than thrilled.
“Hello from hospital,” she wrote. “About to have my second blood transfusion which truly truly truly sounds more dramatic than it is. It’s an IV, but instead of fluids, the blood of some kind human being out there.”
Teigen added that although she wasn’t happy to be in the hospital, everyone was ok.
“Baby and I are completely fine, just missing the little things like walking…cooking…playing with the other buttbutts,” she wrote.
She said that the New Years photo was just too appropriate to pass up, given everything that this year has entailed.
“Came across this little gem from ringing in 2020. It all makes sense now!”
In her Instagram story, Teigen hit on the importance of donating blood.
″I got some blood from somebody, so if you donate blood, it goes to actual people. People that might be me,” she wrote, according to PEOPLE. ″I kinda feel like I definitely have somebody else inside me right now, which is an odd feeling to have.”
Teigen, who is about half way through her “quarantine surprise” pregnancy, said that she has been bleeding for a month consistently. Because of that, she was on bed rest. Last weekend her bleeding was very heavy, so she knew it was time to get medical attention.
″He moves a lot,” she wrote in one of her updates. “He’s moved so much earlier than they ever did. He’s like a rollie pollie. We have like a million great pictures of him. He’s just so different than [my older two] were. So he’s so strong and I’m just so excited for him because he’s so wonderful and just the strongest little dude, so I can’t wait for him.”
Still, before she was able to feel the baby she was worried about whether he was doing ok, she explained on Instagram.
“Before I’m able to start feeling the kicks, the anxiety gets the best of me and any little bits of spotting or pain freak me ouuuuuut. one day I swear I’ll buy one of these machines but by then I’ll be all done with having monsters,” she said, posting a picture of herself getting an ultrasound.
Knowing how anxious she was about her son throughout the pregnancy–and how excited she and her husband were to welcome him home, further adds to the heartbreak the world is feeling for their family. We are sending all the love and healing to Teigen during this time, and thinking of all the mamas who know the unique heartbreak of infant and pregnancy loss.
