Almost a decade ago with my first baby, I fell in love with Boon’s simple, easy to clean bath toys. Since then, I have used their feeding accessories, bath tub, original high chair, and now, their newly designed GRUB Baby high chair.
Every single boon product is innovative, well thought out, and expertly crafted. This brand does not deal with mess or unworthy mechanics. They know parents and caregivers need products that work and work well. And they deliver time and time again.
So, it comes at no surprise that the boon GRUB Baby high chair features all the bells and whistles of a timeless high chair. From first table experience into the activity stage of the toddler years, this high chair offers a seamless invitation for little ones to partake in life alongside their family. For instance, the extra features on this chair make me swoon include a handy bib hook on the back of the seat and the ability to super clean everything.
That’s right, the seat cushion is machine washable and everything else can go straight into the dishwasher. And we all say, “Hallelujah,” because learning to eat is hands down one of the messiest sports in the baby Olympics!
Best of all, the boon GRUB will live beyond infant meals. When your child graduates from a high chair the boon GRUB can transition to a toddler seat. You actually get three seats in one:
- a full height counter seat
- a mid-height table seat
- a low toddler chair
In addition, the adjustable footrest properly supports your little one’s feet for optimal posture while they sit.

Why Opt for a Full-Size High Chair like the GRUB?
If you’re torn on if you should choose a baby seat that straps to a chair or a traditional full-size high chair like the boon GRUB, my personal opinion is to go for the full-size high chair.
Our family prefers a full-size high chair because you don’t lose a seat at the table for other family members or guests. It’s also nice to give your little one a designated space at the table so they feel part of the family’s happenings. Meal time is about so much more than just food.
With a full-size seat, baby can also have a full size view on occasion. More often than not, my little guy hangs out in his seat in the kitchen while I prepare food for my other kids or do the dishes.
Having a full-size high chair brings baby up to counter or table height for interaction and meal facilitation and nothing beats that. Plus, I definitely appreciate the 5-harness strap that a full-size high chair offers.
Boon GRUB Baby High Chair: Features You Will Love
I have to be honest with you: the boon GRUB Baby high chair is darn near perfect. Here are the features that make this high chair a top consideration:
You can wash everything
I once had a high chair with 14,000 evil little crevices. On a monthly basis or so, I would practically have to disassemble it, hose it down outside, and then detail it with a toothpick. It was hell. High chairs are meant to get messy, so it’s requirement that they are easy to clean.
The boon GRUB Baby High Chair has a smooth shape that can be easily wiped down after each use. And then, when it gets really dirty or needs some deep clean maintenance every single piece of the chair can be safely washed in the washing machine or dishwasher. If a worst-case scenario strikes (say, tomato sauce stains or trashed straps) you can order replacement pieces directly from boon.
GRUB grows with your child
In the scope of your parenting years, the time you use a high chair is short. By the time your child is two or three years old, what do you do with their high chair? I love that boon implemented a third setting into their high chair design allowing the high chair to become a toddler-sized seat.
Low to the ground and minus the eating tray, the boon GRUB becomes a little seat for kids up to age six to enjoy. Talk about versatility! This really helps to justify the investment of a full-size high chair as well. Plus, it’s super cute. The toddler seat has a very mid-century flair that will tuck perfectly into your living space or little one’s bedroom.
It’s super easy to set up
I can personally attest that the GRUB is incredibly easy to set up. In fact, my 10-year-old daughter asked to help me set it up and instead, I handed the entire project over to her, just to see. I fully expected that she would tell me I needed to take over, but nope- she put the whole thing together by herself! So my 10-year-old is quite the testament to GRUB’s assembly ease.
Little features make a difference
It is obvious that boon equipped the GRUB with all the highlights of a great high chair, but it is their attention to detail that makes it really outstanding. For example, I love that there is a bib hook on the back of the seat.
It’s also super fun that you can order a second seat cushion in a different color; choose from a calm moss green, pretty ballerina pink, or the standard, neutral gray. The seat itself comes in a soft white and dark grey so you can choose what fits your home’s aesthetic most.
“Every single piece of the GRUB high chair can be safely washed in the washing machine or dishwasher.”

Boon GRUB Baby High Chair in Action: What to Consider
Of course, no review is complete without touching on what aspects you’ll want to consider before purchasing. Here are two things I’d want parents to know before they buy:
It’s a large high chair
The GRUB is larger than I’ve encountered in a seat before. At a square 29” x 29”, it takes up a fair amount of space. Be sure you have a good spot for it that won’t hinder the flow of your dining area. As it adjusts though, the footprint does get smaller.
The tray isn’t one-handed release
My one complaint about the GRUB is that it does takes two hands to release the tray. To pop the tray off, you need two hands to replace the closure which proves difficult while balancing a wiggling twenty pounds.
I have learned to employ my hip to bump and release it just so, but it isn’t necessarily easy. (On the other hand, you could say this is a positive because there are no worries about it ever falling off!)
Overall, however, I wish the boon GRUB had a one hand tray release.
Final Verdict
If I can guide you in one direction when it comes to purchasing a high chair I would heavily advise you to find one that is easy to clean. The fact that GRUB is fully washable is a huge plus. If you do happen to consider another seat, be sure to assess how you will clean it—I just can’t stress that enough.
In addition, if you find yourself prioritizing what baby gear to purchase first, know that you can bump a high chair a little lower on the list.
Unlike newborn essentials like a car seat and baby carrier that you need from day one, you won’t be using a high chair until closer to six months. So you have time to do your research.
But when you are ready to buy, the GRUB high chair is a great choice.
