Soon Hollywood’s elite will open their arms to welcome their newest addition — the daughter of Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom. The baby, who is expected to arrive later this summer, will no doubt be surrounded by A-list stars, a fact that was underscored this week when the parents-to-be asked none-other than Jennifer Aniston to be the baby’s godmother.
It’s hard to keep up with the who’s who of Hollywood friendships, but apparently Perry and Aniston are close. A source told Mirror that they’ve been going on walks together during quarantine, even though Katy says she’s reached that point of pregnancy where she’s waddling around.
The source said that Katy and Orlando asked Jennifer together if she’s be the godmother, and all three got teary-eyed.
Although Aniston, 51, doesn’t have any kids of her own, this isn’t her first godchild. Back in 2014, former Friends co-star Courtney Cox asked Aniston to be the godmother for her daughter, Coco Arquette.
Earlier this year Arquette posted a video on Instagram of her singing while her mom, Courtney Cox, played the piano. Aniston commented on it, “Aww, just like her godmother taught her.” Aniston has commented on how quickly Arquette, who is 16, is growing up, and mused whether she was being overprotective of her goddaughter, even saying “I love you deep.”
There’s no doubt that Aniston will have the same love and devotion for baby Perry-Bloom. Although Perry, 35, is a bit younger than Aniston, the two have been pandemic buddies. The public got a little peak into what they might be talking about on all those pandemic walks when Perry told SiriusXM about how excited she is to welcome her daughter. Motherhood was the next phase of life for her, she said.
“Well, it wasn’t an accident. It was like, you know, I’m so grateful for everything that I have been able to do and achieve and all the goals I’ve been able to kinda check off my list, and dreams, in the life I’ve lived thus far. I think I’ve just been trying to create this space in my own life where I’m not running myself too ragged and, like, creating space for something new to happen like this.”
Her fiance Orlando Bloom, who proposed on Valentine’s Day 2019, has also been giving her some space, especially when everyone is stuck at home during the pandemic. Perry told Cosmo that Bloom has been making sure that he’s not driving her nuts during the end of pregnancy.
“He’s being very sensitive, knowing that we’re not only in quarantine but we’re doing it while pregnant. He’s also doing a lot of pro-style cycling for a couple hours a day, so that gives me my space,” Perry said.
Although the baby will be Perry’s first, Bloom is already dad to nine-year-old Flynn Christopher Bloom, whose mom is Bloom’s former wife, model Miranda Kerr. Last year, Bloom told Howard Stern that Perry had a bit of an adjustment to becoming a step mom — which is entirely understandable!
“When you have a child, you realize you’re not the most important person in the room,” Bloom said. “You know, it crushes your ego, and you go, ‘Oh, wow,’ right? So it reframes everything. [Perry], you know, is still the most important person in her room [with] her family and everyone else. … I’m sure, you know, having a child for me changed all of that, so I was in a different headspace and she had to kind of work on getting her head into a headspace that felt like, OK, partnership and stuff.”
Now, though, the duo is thrilled to be expanding their family. Perry’s Instagram is full of hilariously honest photos of pregnant life — although we never looked quite as glamorous during pregnancy as she does, even when she’s eating pickles out of the jar in a long-sleeve t-shirt.
Baby might have some of mom’s spunk. Perry posted an ultrasound video in May, with the caption, “when your unborn daughter gives you a middle finger from the womb you know you’re in for it #happymothersdaytome😳“
Giving birth in the middle of a pandemic is no cake walk, even for Hollywood royalty! So, good luck to Katy Perry — we know you’ll be able to count on your good friend Jen when you need her.
