Happy Little Camper Hand Sanitizer Review: This Mom of 5 Approves

As a mom and a nurse, I definitely know the importance of keeping our family’s hands clean, but I will admit that it’s not always easy to use to do, especially on the go. I spent many years in a hospital setting using harsh hand sanitizer and it’s definitely not something I want to slather all over my kids’ hands. (Heck, even the smell of that stuff brings me right back to night shift exhaustion.) And although I try to combat that by keeping those cute, travel-sized “scented” hand sanitizers around, those often get lost or don’t exactly get the job done.

My search for the perfect hand sanitizer has continued, but I’m happy to report that it’s finally ending thanks to coming across the Happy Little Camper Sanitizer. In short, it’s convenient to keep in the car, has a lockable pump top, rubs in almost instantly, and has a very pleasant and mild smell. Lockable Pump Top

So when I had the opportunity to try out Happy Little Camper Sanitizer, I was pretty excited. I loved that it came with a pump top—a feature I’ve found to be a necessity with five kids—and was big enough for me to keep permanently in my car without having to keep track of the small sanitizers.

The pump top is also lockable, which means that I can lock it when I don’t want to risk those same little hands I’m cleaning getting into the sanitizer when I don’t want them to. Locking the pump is as easy as twisting the top to the side and I use it so much getting in and out of the car (after pumping gas, for instance) that it’s become second nature to quickly lock the pump after I use it so I avoid any accidents. The lockable pump feature is also super handy to have when you want to toss the sanitizer in your diaper bag and not worry about spills too.

Alcohol Power

Although the sanitizer is not all-natural, like some of the other products in the Happy Little Camper line (fun fact: the brand was started by Hilary Duff!), I appreciated that it’s paraben and phthalate free and that it kills 99.99% of bacteria, thanks to the main ingredient of 70% alcohol. It also has a very mild scent, which is nice for kids especially, as some children can be sensitive to smells. And when you’re sanitizing 10 hands at once, a heavy scent can be overpowering.

The sanitizer texture is also spot-on: it’s a topical gel solution and it rubs on very easily and practically disappears. I’ve definitely used some other types of sanitizers that glop on in giant liquid chunks and are impossible to rub in, but this sanitizer definitely is superior. Another feature to love? That 70% alcohol concentration that gives it microbial fighting power also gives it anti-freezing power: if you leave it stashed in the car it won’t freeze. We live in Michigan and I’ve had this sanitizer in my car through below-negative temps, so you can trust me on that one.

One thing to be aware of: like any hand sanitizer, it’s not recommended for use on infants under the age of 2 months, so you’ll want to use another method of hand washing for very young babies.

Overall, the Happy Little Camper sanitizer gets this mom of five’s seal of approval. I love how convenient it is to keep in the car, the lockable pump top that makes dispensing and preventing spills super easy, and the texture and smell are the best of any kid-friendly sanitizer I’ve found yet.
